Blanche Baker Teaching Portfolio

My philosophy is that teaching the arts makes a unique contribution to the future by cultivating students’ ability to transform the world through creative vision.

I’m passionate about the fact that ground-breaking work in film and theatre can only come from open-mindedness and a willingness to explore ourselves and our society. I’ve written and directed numerous films with my Musical Theatre and Acting students at New York Film Academy. The projects are all relevant to social issues in the world today.

Streetwrite

Political graffiti has a long history dating back to the walls of Ancient Rome. It represents an alternative means of expression that gives voice to the issues and concerns of the common people. This tradition of free expression forms the basis of STREETWRITE, a movie musical that asks the question, “How can speech be free, if only those who pay can speak?”

Make America Safe

A musical send-up of the 2nd Amendment. What if citizens were required to carry weapons to insure the safety of the public? What is the motto “If everyone is armed there will be no more crime” becomes the law of the land in 2025. This movie musical takes a sardonic look at that possibility. In the end it is students who question the validity of rights trumping reason.
